China offers to play an impartial role as a mediator
In July 2025, at the ASEAN conference in Malaysia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged to maintain an “objective and impartial” stance, and is willing to support reconciliation and promote dialogue between the two sides. He also proposed to strengthen security cooperation to combat cross-border crimes such as online fraud, gambling, smuggling, etc.
China affirms support for both sides to maintain peace after the trilateral meeting on August 14
On August 14, 2025, China held a trilateral diplomatic meeting with Thailand and Cambodia in China. Following that, on August 15, Beijing reaffirmed its desire to restore peace and its willingness to support the two countries in maintaining the agreement they had reached.
There have been no official reports or reliable sources indicating that China has warned Thailand for “interfering” in Cambodian criminal areas.
Instead, China has repeatedly expressed its neutral stance, proposed peaceful mediation, and called for cooperation to effectively address cross-border crimes.
